A special issue of Australian Journal of Public Administration on “Policy advice, Expertise, and Policy advisory systems” has recently been published.
The discussion here fits with the aim of Transforming Evidence to build a community and enable better learning across disciplines, policy areas and countries. As the introduction to this collection of seven new articles states, “The impact of recent events and changes on existing largely top-down models of PAS [policy advisory systems] is substantial.”
This special issue considers issues including the challenges of contestability (Brian W Head), and what changes for policy professionals and ‘policy shops’ result from processes such as the increased externalisation and politicisation of policy advice (Michael Howlett). Specific examples are explored in the nexus between global climate policies and public health (Holger Strassheim), the Iranian political advisory system (Seyed Mohamad Sadegh Emamian, Reza Bagheripour) and managing COVD-19 in Morocco (Ait el Caid).
