If you work for or with a UK government department or public body, and you are interested in evidence based work, then ARIs (Areas of Research Interest) matter to you. ARIs are the way that the main research questions facing the UK government are articulated.
Transforming Evidence can help you to understand how to develop or refresh ARIs, including a guide to the Common stages in the ARI process.
Transforming Evidence is also involved in helping stakeholders respond constructively to ARIs. You can search the ARI database by topic or keyword to find existing ARIs. They are an incredibly useful tool to improve conversations and prioritisation between government, funders and academia.
ARIs can help policy and practice organisations develop and articulate a research strategy, engage effectively with other stakeholders including funders and researchers, and deliver better value for money from public resources. To do this well takes commitment, time and skilled work. You can read more on our Project pages, including our new video on ARIs.
Our advice is based on our work with the UK government and arms-length bodies, with the devolved administrations, with the Westminster and devolved Parliaments, with local governments across the UK, and with other parts of the UK public sector. Internationally, we have supported national and regional governments in the USA, Canada, Australia, and across the EU as they develop similar processes.
