CO-PRODUCING RESEARCH COMMUNICATION

'Blending research, journalism, and community expertise: A case study of co-production in research communication.'

Published by: Science Communication, (2020) 42(3), 340–368

Coproduction as an approach to research communication is explored through semistructured interviews with researchers, journalists, a community liaison, and editorial staff who participated in the coproduction of podcasts. It was a primarily positive experience that motivated the reexamination of taken-for-granted perceptions about each stakeholder’s role in research communication. Key questions are raised for future research about coproduction in research communication as well as suggestions for stakeholders planning or engaging in coproduction.
